Overview


Picton clusters around a deep gulch at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound. It’s the main traveller port for the South Island, and the best place from which to explore the Marlborough Sounds and tackle the Queen Charlotte Track. Along the waterfront, visitors can find some good cafes, restaurants, a New Zealand art gallery, craft stores and the Picton Museum, with exhibits about the area's whaling history.


Ship Location


Ships dock at Waitohi Wharf about half a mile to the centre of the small, picturesque township. Shakespeare bay is available for larger ships and is a short 3 minute drive to Picton's center.


Getting Around


Most attractions and even the cruise terminal itself are all within walking distance of this quaint town. Buses serving Picton also depart the ship terminal or nearby i-SITE.

This cozy town is an attraction in itself. with majestic views and relaxed atmosphere, its a great place to kick back and enjoy your surroundings, try Le Cafe, a popular spot both for its quayside location, dependable food and Havana coffee. If you would like to make the most out of your time here a stop at Eco World Aquarium is recommended, The primary purpose of this centre is animal rehab. Featuring rare and endangered animals of many species. Visit Picton Museums for a dose of local whaling and sailing history.
